Pulling the Earth Strings is part of Christensen's PhD artistic research project “INTERDIMENSIONAL ARTISTIC REFLECTION: Speculative movements through Spatial, Digital and Narrative Media” and will be presented as one of her artistic results that concludes the PhD period.
Pulling the Earth Strings is a site-specific performative installation and live event developed for Lydgalleriet. Here, the gallery is materially transformed into an enveloping, interactive installation: a 'root network' of vibrating and sound-resonating ropes the audience goes into and connects with.
As the audience enters the rope installation, a sound-activated narrator's voice invites them to follow the line of the rope and venture on a speculative journey into an expanded dimension: that of the ground of Nordnes beneath Lydgalleriet, where they can meet a larger more-than-human being, with whom they are invited to communicate, through the sound vibrations and pressure sensors in the ropes. When the audience then connects into the rope installation they affect both the installation and each other, potentially experiencing an expanded conversation that transgresses subjective, temporal and spatial boundaries.
