Lydgalleriet is a production and exhibition platform for sound-based art situated in Bergen, Norway.

We are the only specialised gallery for sonic cultures in Norway and our purpose is to promote and support sound-based art expression through dissemination, stimulation for new production, live events, collaboration and community building.

Lydgalleriet was initiated in 2005 by a group of local artists, musicians, curators and art historians. They wished to explore how a traditional gallery space could benefit the presentation of sound-based art work, and how different acoustic environments can alter, modify or shape sound-based work.

Exhibitions

Lydgalleriet presents an all year public program of exhibitions, live events and discourse development.
, thanks to generous public funding from Bergen City Council, Vestland County Council and Arts and Culture Norway.

We organise 10-12 exhibitions and events each year with local and international artists and practitioners. Visiting Lydgalleriet is free or reasonably priced.

The program is curated by invitation or open calls. As a non-profit organisation, we are supported by Bergen City Council, Vestland County Council and Arts and Culture Norway.

Production

Lydgalleriet offers a flexible space for production to materialise and is committed to experimentation and developing new ideas.

We work closely with artists through all production, dissemination and presentation stages. We facilitate dissemination through curator-led tours, one-to-one and group tours, as well as organised listening, presentations and live events.

Lydgalleriet accepts exhibition proposals and ideas from artists. Read more here.

Listening library

Lydgalleriet has a physical archive of publications, vinyls, cds and cassettes for the public to read and listen to in our venue.

Most of this material is related to Lydgalleriet's programming throughout the years and it gives an insight to the various curatorial discourses in Lydgalleriet's history.

We do not lend out items from the library, but they are accessible and free to browse for the public. Get in touch for more information about the library's contents.

Equipment

Lydgalleriet rents out technical equipment to artists and institutions, mostly Genelec 8020 and 8040 speakers, stands for 8040 and subwoofers.

We also sell new Genelec speakers and equipment with a 30% discount. Get in touch by email for more information about sales.
