Alwynne Pritchard and NeoQuartet are in musicians in resident at Lydgalleriet this week. They open up the gallery space between 14-18 every day inviting you to pay a visit and contribute to the parlour music being made.
During the 19th century parlour music emerged as a form of entertainment for households, designed for amateur musicians to perform in the comfort of their own homes. Typically featuring vocal pieces accompanied by piano, the rise of parlour music led to a surge in home-based musical activities. Sheet music was the primary medium for distributing parlour music, enabling its widespread popularity. Pritchard and NeoQuartet invite for contributions of a variety of notation to the working process.
During their one week residency at Lydgalleriet, Pritchard and NeoQuartet develop a collective composition will also form the axis around which interactions with visitors take place. Installing themselves at the gallery during opening hours, the five musicians will be a resource for visitors, who can engage in discussion, propose ideas for workshopping, exchange skills and collaborate in the rehearsal process. Each day ends with a group reflection on strategies for continuing development of PARLOUR.
PARLOUR is supported by Norwegian Society of Composers and iPortunus.
