Sunday December 3rd, Polina Medvedeva performs Re-Currents, using her voice as an instrument for real-time composition. Re-Currents is programmed aside Medvedeva's exhibition A knock from below heard from the bottom, in which the performance will take place.
The performance researches militarised gender violence and is inspired by a practice adrienne maree brown and Walidah Imarisha developed called 'visionary fiction', which aims to imagine new, just worlds through bottom up collective organising.
Visionary fiction is a practice deriving from the idea that all forms of organising are a way of science fiction. Contrary to traditional science fiction narratives though, which often feature a single hero fighting injustice through internalising and replicating systems of oppression, visionary fiction aims to imagine worlds in which human or other species tap into their mental archives in order to transform the world beyond its exploitative power dynamics.
