Territories

Territories started up in 2021 and is a long-term interdisciplinary collaboration organised by nyMusikks Komponistgruppe.

Rather than considering territory as a geographical definition, it includes areas such as knowledge, activity and experiences. The themes in the seven projects range from childhood homes in Honningsvåg in northern Norway to memories and inherent memory among aging dementia patients, from style and expression in puppet theatre art to modernism interpreted through the mind of the Russian schizophrenic choreographer Nijinsky, from history and signs in the landscape leading to Helnes lighthouse, to geological layers beneath the glacier Blåisen surface in Finse, and from there again to dance as a form of survival in Fortaleza’s favelas.

This interim exhibition presents seven collaborative projects that all seek to expand the notion of territory. Composers Tine Surel Lange, Mathieu Lacroix, Martin Taxt, Else Olsen Storesund, Solveig Sørheim, Mike McCormick, Kristian Skårbrevik and Ulf A. S. Holbrook in collaboration with visual artists Emma Gunnarsson, Oscar Debs, Eirik Blekesaune, Solveig Sørheim and architect Cecilie Andersson, professor of geophysics Karen Mair, choreographer Katiana Pena, actor Lola Katzenberger, dancer Tonje Aas Molnes and filmmaker Mateo R. Christensen and puppeteer Kira Hall.

Territories includes the permanent sound installation 'Lyttekammers' by Else Olsen Storesund, Solveig Sørheim and Cecilie Andersson at Siljuslåtten Sykehjem, and an open seminar at Lydgalleriet on Saturday November 19th, 14.00hrs.

Curated by Ulf A. S. Holbrook. Supported by Arts Council Norway, Bergen City Council and nyMusikk Bergen.
