Lydgalleriet and nyMusikk Bergen have invited School of Noise from London. Pupils from Nordnes and Christi Krybbe schools have been exploring and learning about fun sounds, instruments and recording methods alongside the School of Noise.
The equipment and materials included a theremin, Foley props, tuning forks, a Chladni plate (creating patterns in sand by vibrating a metal plate), a Dadamachine (MIDI controller), and an Ototo (for using conductive materials to trigger sounds). The pupils learned about playing and experimenting with sounds and had the opportunity to play and experiment with the musical and scientific equipment, try being a Foley artist, and record sounds that matched the movements in a short video clip. The pupils sampled found sounds and were encouraged to think about how they could create sound (body percussion, objects in the room, zippers on clothing, voice, etc.).
Afterwards, the sounds were recorded and edited to create a short musical composition. During Saturday's Den store krapylkonserten, organised by NyMusikk Krapyl in Grieghallen, a series of short improvisations created during the school workshops at Lydgalleriet, were performed. This collaboration is supported by City of Bergen.
