Rulers and Rhythm Studies

Lydgalleriet presents Cevdet Erek’s work with rhythm involving sound and objects. Rulers and Rhythm Studies is centred around Erek’s research into rulers, which allow us to translate temporal patterns into spatial relations.

Erek’s work points towards rhythm as a transsensorial phenomenon and as something that lies beyond what can be heard or seen. Simultaneously, Erek’s rulers function as suggestive and poetic tools allowing for a combination of otherwise separate ways to rationalise temporal and spatial relations.

The work makes it possible to establish imaginary timelines and connections between events in time, history and memory. Rhythm and rhythmical patterns are a key aspect in Erek’s work, and clear marks of his background in architecture and sound.

He works across various formats including musical performances and exhibitions with sound, drawings and objects, often in a site-specific context.
