Parallax

by
Poster design: Blank Blank

This Norwegian trio forge their own unique take on improvisation, seamlessly drawing on influences ranging from Asian folk musics to traditional jazz and abstract soundscapes. Shaggy, crackling, adorning and melodical, the music moves from low-tempered whispers to intriguing sharpness.

It may remind you of a musical haiku poem, taking place here and now, setting you in a certain mood and spinning off in surprising twists. Rather than belonging to any particular school of improvisation, Parallax' music is a blend of the members' musical preferences and influences with strong emphasis on interplay and listening.

Their strong focus on interplay gives the music a strong sense of form and direction, and the result is often perceived as being composed. With Stian Omenås on trumpet and percussion, Are Lothe Kolbeinsen on guitar and prepared guitar and Ulrik Ibsen Thorsrud on drums and percussion.
