Conversations with Land

Conversations with Land is part of a continuous project that explores the sound of the Norwegian landscape, soundscape ecology, landscape exploitation and geopolitical processes.

Rishaug uses the sound of the Midtfjellet Wind Farm on Fitjar, Stord, as his starting point for Conversations with Land at Lydgalleriet. The sounds from the wind farm forms the basis for a multi-channel sound installation that invites and activates the audience's entire sensory system through active listening. By moving around the gallery space, a deep and subtle sonic activity is perceived. These sounds simultaneously form organic imprints ('a shifting baseline’) on to sculptural platform objects lit up in the space; a miniature landscape in slow and almost invisible transformation.

We organise a listening session and artist talk in collaboration with nyMusikk Bergen Wednesday June 14th, 19.00. Meet up at Lydgalleriet!

Investigating how sound transform nature and landscape and shape our experience of public space, Rishaug organises a soundwalk Saturday June 17th to Midtfjellet Wind Farm. It consists of a fifty-five wind turbines, a landscape we will walk through and experience sonically first hand. A collective listening session and an introduction to the site's geology and history is part of this soundwalk. Local fermenter Arne Skaug Olsen has gathered local plants to compose a unique taste experience for Midtfjellet, which will also be served.

Conversations with Land is produced in collaboration with Birk Nygaard, Arne Skaug Olsen, Anna Näumann and Lydgalleriet. The exhibition and sound walk are supported by the Visual Artists' Remuneration Fund, the Norwegian Arts Council and KORO. Curated by Julie Lillelien Porter.
