Utstillingen ‘Omissionary’ av Tobias Kvendseth er en undersøkelse av det parallelle, avsidesliggende i ens psyke, et flyktig modus som tilfluktssted og hvordan det kan forvares. 

Det sentrale lydverket Parahymnal utforsker den menneskelige stemmen og dens evne til å skape temporære, mentale rom, i samspill med en arkitektonisk installasjon og skulpturelle objekter som søker å være beholdere av disse. Ved å unngå virkeligheten til fordel for fantasi, ved å forvandle rom og gjenstander for å bekrefte indre tilstander, er ønsket å være i besittelse av et sted, en følelse eller en historie.

Tobias Kvendseth er en Bergensbasert kunstner med MFA fra Kunstakademiet i Bergen. Med en praksis bestående av skulptur, installasjon og musikk utforsker Kvendseth det indre — både i arkitektonisk og personlig forstand. De siste årene har han jobbet med skam som emne, og dannet en samling verk av keramikk, tre og gips med den hensikt å representere, utføre eller lindre symptomer av skam. Selv om det meste av verket springer ut fra en subjektiv sammenblanding av kildemateriale og prosess, søker hans arbeid å gi abstrakte følelsesmessige tilstander en håndgripelig form ved å forholde seg til de fysiske rommene, historiene og objektene rundt oss.

The exhibition ‘Omissionary’ by Tobias Kvendseth explores the sensory and physical form of omission. Through sound and sculpture he provides tools to contemplate imaginary spaces and our relationship to them as they process into memories. 

The central sound piece Parahymnal, explores the human voice and its capacity to allude to momentary spaces, together with an architectural installation and sculptural objects that seek to contain them. By suspending reality in favour of fantasy, by shaping spaces and objects to affirm internal states, the aim is to be in possession of a realm, feeling or history.

Tobias Kvendseth is a Bergen based artist with an MFA from The Art Academy in Bergen. With a practice consisting of sculpture, installation and music, Kvendseth explores the interior — both in the architectural sense and the personal. In recent years he has worked with shame as subject, forming a collection of work from ceramic, wood and plaster with the intention to represent, perform or ease symptoms of shame. Though most of the work springs from a subjective conflation of source material and process, his work seeks to give abstract emotional states a tangible form by relating to the physical spaces, histories and objects that surround us.
